Talking Landcare – Urban Landscapes

The Illawarra community is invited to attend Landcare Illawarra’s October Talking Landcare event in Dapto.

A range of excellent speakers have been engaged to talk about urban landscapes and how we can consider the species we are using in our gardens and landscaping projects, the potential to spread environmental weeds and how to manage them, as well as the development of valuable resources for the whole community to be able to access to make better decisions about species selection for planting in the Illawarra.

Speakers

Gary Leonard – Environmental Weeds and Garden Escapees
Gary will cover a range of information including;
what an environmental weed is, legislation for weed management, weeds in a historical context,
invasions of natural systems, growth rates, reproductive rates, genetic pollution,
and what practical steps we can take to manage the introduction and spread of environmental weeds

Carl Glaister – Urban landscaping using natives
Carl will give an overview of how we can use native species in an urban environment and how we can consider garden design to encourage coexistence with wildlife in our area

Leon Fuller – Development of an online resource for the community

Leon will discuss the proposal to create a website to provide information on the culture of indigenous plants (and habitat for indigenous animals) for the benefit of people in the environment and horticulture industries.
