Talking Landcare – Escarpment to the Sea

Landcare Illawarra community information evenings

Landcare Illawarra will be launching its inaugural Talking Landcare information evening at the Dapto Ribbonwood Centre on Friday the 24th of August 2012.
These evenings invite any interested community member to come and hear about anything environmental relevant to the region.
This is an opportunity for people to get to know the Landcare Illawarra team and what we do as well as hear about exciting projects, stories and hear from interesting key note speakers on a range of topics!
The Illawarra is one of the most biologically diverse regions in NSW, supporting high value terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity.
Urban development, weed invasion and a decline in native fauna and flora populations pose a serious threat to this diversity, but local action is making a difference.
The very first event will launch two short documentary films on the Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority’s Escarpment to Sea program.
Two short films set on the escarpment and coastal plain describe the work of some individual and corporate landholders in partnership with community organisations and government agencies to conserve our local biodiversity for future generations.
This project was commissioned by Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority with funding from the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country initiative and the NSW Government.

Tyler Freeman Smith is a creative director with Free Range Multimedia and has worked on a number of exciting environmental film projects. Tyler will also be sharing his experiences in the field with participants on the information evening and was involved in the production of the two short films being screened on the evening.

Landcare Illawarra Woodland and Rainforest project
With recent success in attracting $500 000 to the Illawarra region to continue valuable biodiversity conservation works in two important endangered ecological communities, Landcare Illawarra Project Officer, Richard Scarborough will also be giving a brief introduction and overview to this exciting six year-funded project.
Guests will also enjoy a complementary light supper.
