The Wetland Carers Network is a partnership between South East Local Land Services, Wetland Care Australia and Conservation Volunteers.  Our aim is to improve the health of wetlands on the South Coast of NSW through delivery of on ground works on public and private land, educational opportunities and monitoring of our wetland environments.

To celebrate World Wetland Day the Wetland Carers Network is teaming up with the Illawarra Birders Club to participate in the Lake Illawarra wader bird survey.  Lake Illawarra is a cultural and environmental centrepiece for the Illawarra region and hosts regionally significant flora and fauna communities.  The Illawarra Birders Club will lead us on a walk through some of these communities and we will record the data collected.  You will be provided with an insight into what birds inhabit the local areas, where you are likely to find them and how to identify them.

The days activities will wrap up with a light breakfast on the foreshore at the Lake’s entrance, where there will be a chance to meet and greet some of the staff and volunteers dedicated to improving the wetlands in our region.
