Gainsborough Chase Minnamurra River Wetland Landcare Group 

Site Description

This recently formed group work on a stunning property owned by the Kiama Baptist Church which contains SEPP 14 coastal wetland habitat. This important ecosystem has been subject to disturbance from the public accessing and vandalizing the site and people allowing domestic animals to damage the site.

There are species of weeds including Affrican Boxthorn, Lantana and Asparagus fern on site that need to be removed also a heritage stone wall also needs to be protected from vegetation damage by a 1m buffer zone. Weed removal is ongoing and Landcare Illawarra have supplied chains and locks in the hope of keeping vandals out. Unfortunately some have been stolen already. This site needs volunteers to help in weeding and planting rainforest and riparian plants and help protect this ecological treasure.

Meeting Times

Conservation Volunteers Australia are running projects every third Wednesday and Thursday of the month and the Gainsborough Chase Minnamurra River Wetland Landcare group meet Saturday mornings once a month at the end of Thornett Way, Kiama Downs.
