The Gerringong Gerroa Landcare Network includes representatives from schools, Dunecare, Lions Club, the Boolarng Nangamai Aboriginal Arts Studio, farmers, Garden Club, Streamwatch and lots more! We meet every few months and hold activities to connect and share ideas and goals for repairing the natural environment.
An example of how the network has connected locals is: Gerroa local, Dave Johnson has been assisting Berry Public School at their Propagation Unit, to grow thousands of native plants each year for the wider community. The GG Network now regularly collect native seed for the school to propagate, and then return those plants to thier project sites.
We have held a rainforest information day - 100 people came to find out how this property dealt with lantana and are regenerating their patch of rainforest. We are planning:
* propagation workshop
* seed collecting calendar
The network came about in 2005, after a general meeting of anyone interested in environment - coordinated by local agencies (Kiama Council, SRCMA, Landcare Illawarra) who wanted to recognise the efforts of the local groups, but support them in working together and connecting.
