Local Landcare Groups in the Illawarra

Local Landcare Groups in the Illawarra work at sites spotted along the coast and lower slopes of the Illawarra Escarpment from Helensburgh in the North to Gerroa in the South.  Sites range from coastal headlands and dune systems, river valleys, local creeks and wetlands, and a number of Ecologically Endangered Communities.

Landcare Groups throughout the Illawarra generally meet about once per month to undertake environmental repair work on their site and are always keen to welcome new volunteers to get involved and help out! Tasks include removing weed species choking the natural environment, maintaining natural regeneration and planting endemic species, monitoring water quality and species surveying.

If spending a few hours each month in the great outdoors with a bunch of friendly volunteers in your local patch of bush, creek or wetland, sounds like a satisfying way to help your local environment, then click on the links below! It's a great opportunity to learn about the biodiversity and history of your local area by sharing knowledge amongst the group.
